The Bullies (Shoe Story # 7)
Colin knew the bullies were waiting.
Colin knew the bullies were waiting.
Of course, he hoped they weren’t waiting.
But he knew they would be.
Colin knew the bullies couldn’t resist the temptation to humiliate him one more time.
The heavy sneakers were slung over his left shoulder, tied together by their laces.
Walking quickly now, he adjusted the sneakers so they wouldn’t swing into his face, as he sharply rounded the corner.
The gang were all there.
Mickey and Johnno saw him first and dropped their backpacks in anticipation.
Tezza looked up from his phone and started grinning.
Colin ignored them and kept his attention fixed on DJ, the de facto leader of the pack.
There was a moment, which stretched out like an hour or an eon, while expectation hung in the air, heavy and suffocating.
Then, bang! The bubble burst.
DJ stood up and Colin started running.
He raced directly towards the bullies. It caught them completely off guard.
